„Harbour Symphony” goes Baltic Sail

Spectacular performance “Harbour Symphony” during the Baltic Sail 2009 was held in Gdansk on July 10, 2009. The idea of the symphony comes from Canada. There are sounds of music anchored in the sounds of the port and the city combined with the sounds of musical instruments. The natural scenery for this performance was the port. The German composer Wolfgang Schmiedt moved the idea to Rostock, where the music was performed during the Hanse Sail event.

This year the “Harbour Symphony” was created by the German and Polish musicians in Gdansk under musical direction of Martin Pollok from Canada. Musicians from Germany came to Gdansk by the sea on board of traditional sailing vessel “Hansine”. Natural background for the musical scenes was created by the sailing vessels on the Motlawa River and Old Town architecture very close to them in the centre of Gdańsk. Sailing vessel “Hansine” joined other Baltic Sail participants.

The concert was performed at night surrounded by the sounds of ship sirenes and the carillon bells. It was a great experience for citizens and tourists who have arrived to Gdansk.
