„Harbour Symphony“ 2010 in Rostock

The 200th anniversary of the birth of the composer Fryderyk Chopin is being celebrated by sending out the Polish-flagged Brigg "Fryderyk Chopin". Accompanied by the steam engine ice breaker “Stettin”, the Brigg will enter the port of Rostock in Germany as cultural ambassador of Poland on July 14, 2010.

Several supporting programmes shall acknowledge the outstanding piano composer. Highlight of this event will be the “Harbour Symphony” closing the programme. It will be performed in close cooperation with the University for Music and Performing Arts of Rostock.

The performance of the “Harbour Symphony” is characterized by two similar events that previously took place in Rostock and Gdansk. However, the term “Harbour Symphony” shall be popularized. Furthermore, it is intended to place traditional sailing vessels at the centre of attention as cultural assets and as touristic trademark of the Baltic Sea.
